The fiber optic vaginoscope
The fiber optic vaginoscope is designed for easy gynecological examinations of girls and women with a narrow vaginal opening, where the use of a Scherbok mirror is not possible. The fiber optic probe is used in conjunction with a cold light source and a flexible light guide cable.
Using the vaginoscope, it is possible to observe changes in the vaginal mucosa and the cervix, as well as to detect foreign bodies and their positioning. Another advantage of the vaginoscope is that it eliminates the need for surgical dilation of the vaginal opening. This enables early diagnosis of malignant tumors (such as chordoma sarcoma) and differentiation between bleeding from the vaginal wall and the cervical canal. Therefore, in most cases of congenital defects or malformations, laparotomy is not necessary, as the cervix can be visualized using the vaginoscope.
